Joseph Casuccio (1956-1990)

Joseph Casuccio served the Maryvale School District for 34 years. His versatile career included time as a science teacher, physical education teacher, coach, recreation director and finally administrator.

Early in his career Casuccio had brief stints as freshman and JV football basketball and baseball coach. He also briefly served as the girl's softball coach, while also being active in the Varsity Club.

It was in gymnastics that Joe Casuccio made his greatest contributions. He introduced the sport at Maryvale and the guided the 1966 and 1967 squads to undefeated seasons. The 1966 squad also won the sectionals. Joe orchestrated the State Gymnastics Inter-Sectionals at Buffalo State College in 1967 and was the first official gymnastic chairman in the Western New York Section VI Athletic Council. Recognized as the "Father" of high school gymnastics, Casuccio was later honored with the twenty-five year Service Award.

After Joe Casuccio was made Assistant Principal at the high school, he was instrumental in starting the Erie County Inter-Scholastic Conference of Assistant Principal's Organization. He has served on the committee for the Freedom Foundation of Valley Forge, the Maryvale Wall of Fame Committee and the PTO. Casuccio received the award for outstanding participation by the MORE Opportunities Resources and Education Organization.

Joe Casuccio has remained very active after his retirement. He has done volunteer work at the Senior Center and with the woodcarver's club. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Niagara Frontier Woodcarver's Club and an officer of the Thunderbird Club of Western New York.

Joe still lives in Williamsville with his lovely wife Carol. They have two adult children.

Joe Casuccio's work with athletes, teachers and community provided him With an outstanding and fulfilling career. He has wonderful memories of his Maryvale years.
