Billy Hartwig, class of 1963, had the classic American car, the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang convertible. Billy says that he hasn't seen another Pagoda Green Mustang. Neither have I.

1999 US postage stamp featuring th 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang
This model was the 1964 Indianapolis 500 pace car, and in 1999, it had its own postage stamp.

In the upper right-hand photo, Billy is applying pom-poms in preparation for his wedding to Nina Balashevech, MHS class of 1964. I attended their wedding, and I'll never forget how marvelous his car looked...Nina, too. Billy had the perfect honeymoon getaway car.

And, just as I realized with my Porsche, Billy realized that marriage and kids don't mix with two-seaters, the top down, playing Sterling Moss...

What if we had kept those great cars? Here in Colville, Washington, which is very rural, the ranchers have every car they ever owned right in the front yard. What memories! Me? I couldn't take the nagging about cleaning up the yard.

Billy and Nina live in Mesquite, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. They have two daughters and two grandchilren. Last time I checked, Billy was still playing soccer.
